La Casita Boutique is a small-batch, handmade (and curated) goods & accessories brand that celebrates the Caribbean, more specifically the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Established in 2020 and currently based in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.

Hello there and welcome!

My name is Solange (but you can call me Sol, like the sun) and I am the owner, designer, maker, and curator of all things La Casita Boutique! I hand craft unique, statement pieces made of any material I can get my hands on. (You will find that I mostly work with polymer clay, resin, beads, wood, fabric, and heavyweight paper, but am open to any creative ways to use any items, especially unconventional, kitschy items.) I also create products that are inspired by and celebrate my ancestral past's connection with tarot and brujeria - magick!

I run my small business from my home, with the help of my husband (and dedicated army of pets). Each piece is imagined and designed by me and made in small batches, making each piece wonderfully unique.

I have been making since childhood and always found solace in creating. Whether it was plastering my walls with magazine clipping to make collages that expressed my moods, creating a character to bring to life onstage during my theatre days, or putting paint to canvas to decompress, you could always find me making.

I have always been proud of my home and heritage. No matter where I lived, everyone knew me as the "girl from St. Croix" (without actually knowing where it was on a map). Despite acclimating fairly well to moves and changes, I always felt like a fish (or mermaid) out of water.

With this in mind, I decided to be an active participant in the creation of content and products that represent the lesser known U.S. Territories (along with surrounding sister islands) in the e-commerce marketplace. The world needed to know about the beauty, intelligence, innovation, creativity, and humility of the people of the Caribbean, especially those of the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. For months, I brainstormed, designed, created, and demolished ideas with an end goal in mind: create a brand that is INSPIRED BY HERITAGE & HANDMADE WITH PRIDE

But my path to La Casita Boutique has not been a straight one. For the last 17 years I have lived with Systemic Lupus Nephritis and all the comorbidities and curveballs that come along with it. (I detail some of my experiences on my medical journey blog: Little Living Lupie.) I have learned to listen to my body, push through when able, and not let my autoimmune condition hinder me from achieving my academic and professional goals. In 2010, I received my Bachelor of Science in Public Relations, and, in 2013, my Master of Science in Arts Administration both from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. No matter what, always pushed through.

Less than three years ago, I went through a life changing experience with the condition Calciphylaxis. After months of excruciating pain, wound debriding, skin grafting, and physical therapy, I turned to creating as a form of therapy and a way to express myself (and get bonus physical therapy in my hands to help with dexterity)! I haven't looked back since.

Every piece that is created and curated at La Casita Boutique is a celebration of what it means to be from St. Croix, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. Join me in celebrating my home and reveling with pride.
